CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cleveland Cavaliers look to solidify their playoff positioning and continue their recent dominance over the Philadelphia 76ers when the teams meet Monday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The Cavaliers (39-25), currently fourth in the Eastern Conference, host a 76ers squad (34-29) clinging to the eighth spot. Cleveland has won all three meetings this season, including a 117-115 victory in Philadelphia on Jan. 16. Philadelphia arrives after a 125-116 road loss to Atlanta on Saturday, despite 31 points from Tyrese Maxey. The guard has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 29.6 points over his last 10 games. His recent stretch includes a 39-point, eight-assist performance in a win over Minnesota on Feb. 22. The 76ers are 2-3 in their last five games. Cleveland is coming off a 109-98 home loss to Boston on Sunday. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 30 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Mitchell has averaged 25.3 points over his last seven contests, highlighted by a 32-point, 10-assist effort in a Feb. 9 win over Denver. The Cavaliers have gone 7-3 over their last 10 games. The matchup features two of the East’s premier scoring guards in Maxey and Mitchell, who will be central to their teams’ offensive schemes. Philadelphia will need more support for Maxey, who got 26 points from Quentin Grimes and 24 from Kelly Oubre Jr. in the Atlanta loss. Cleveland’s Evan Mobley, who had 24 points and eight rebounds against Boston, provides a critical interior presence. Following this game, Philadelphia begins a four-game homestand Tuesday against Memphis. Cleveland starts a two-game road trip Wednesday in Orlando.
