PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The San Antonio Spurs, riding high as one of the NBA’s top teams, look to rebound from a rare stumble when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena. The Spurs (43-18) arrive with the league’s second-best record but are coming off a 114-89 road loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday, a performance that snapped a seven-game winning streak. Prior to that defeat, San Antonio had won 12 of its last 13 games. All-Star Victor Wembanyama remains the focal point for the Spurs. The 7-foot-4 forward is averaging a near triple-double over his last 10 games, including a 40-point, 12-rebound outing against the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 10 and a 21-point, 17-rebound, six-block performance against Detroit on Feb. 23. He had 25 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in the loss to New York. Philadelphia (33-26) has shown inconsistency but enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently a 124-117 victory over Miami last Thursday. The 76ers’ success is fueled by the backcourt brilliance of Tyrese Maxey, who has been on a scoring tear. Over his last five games, Maxey is averaging 30.8 points and 8.2 assists, including a 39-point, eight-assist effort in a win over Minnesota on Feb. 22. The matchup between Wembanyama’s defensive dominance and Maxey’s explosive offensive play will be a key storyline. The Spurs lead the season series 1-0 after a 127-116 home win on Jan. 15, a game in which Wembanyama recorded 33 points and seven blocks while Maxey scored 35 for Philadelphia. The 76ers will continue a four-game homestand, while the Spurs are in the middle of a challenging five-game road trip. Following this contest, San Antonio returns home to host Detroit on Thursday. Philadelphia hosts the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
