MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Timberwolves look to continue their push in the Western Conference standings when they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night at Target Center. The Timberwolves (38-23) enter on a three-game winning streak, most recently defeating the Denver Nuggets 117-108 on Sunday. Rudy Gobert anchored that victory with 15 rebounds and four assists. The veteran center has been a force, averaging a double-double and anchoring the league’s top-rated defense. Over his last 10 games, Gobert is averaging 11.8 points, 13.1 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. Minnesota holds a commanding 15-game advantage in the standings over the struggling Grizzlies (23-36). However, the season series is tied 1-1, with the road team winning each contest. Memphis claimed the most recent meeting 137-128 on Feb. 2, despite 25 points from Anthony Edwards. The Grizzlies are coming off one of their best performances of the season, a 125-106 road win over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. Rookie guard Walter Clayton Jr. orchestrated the offense with a career-high 14 assists. Over his last five games, Clayton is averaging 7.8 assists, providing a spark for a team that has won two of its last three after a five-game skid. Memphis will need that facilitating to combat a Timberwolves defense that allows the fewest points per game in the NBA. Containing Gobert’s paint presence and the scoring of Edwards, who dropped 21 points in Sunday’s win, will be the primary challenges. For Minnesota, maintaining its defensive identity while exploiting its significant size advantage inside is the clear path to avenging its February loss to Memphis and solidifying its playoff positioning. The Grizzlies, playing the second night of a back-to-back after hosting Portland on Monday, will test their recent momentum against one of the conference’s elite.
