SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The surging San Antonio Spurs, boasting one of the NBA’s best records, will host the struggling Sacramento Kings on Saturday night at Frost Bank Center in a matchup of teams on opposite trajectories. The Spurs (39-17) enter on a seven-game winning streak, having dominated their recent schedule. They are coming off a 121-94 rout of the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. In that victory, franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama posted 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in just 25 minutes, continuing his dominant third-season campaign. Over his last 10 games, the 7-foot-4 forward is averaging a double-double and nearly four blocks per contest, anchoring the league’s second-ranked defense. Conversely, the Kings (12-45) own the worst record in the Western Conference and are mired in a profound slump. They have lost 10 consecutive games, most recently a 131-94 home defeat to the Orlando Magic on Thursday. Their road woes are particularly stark, with losses in 15 of their last 16 games away from Sacramento. Defense has been a primary issue, as the Kings have allowed 120 or more points in eight of their 10 losses during this skid. When the teams met earlier this season on Nov. 16, the Spurs secured a 123-110 home victory. The current form suggests a similar outcome is likely. San Antonio’s balanced attack, which includes strong contributions from guard Stephon Castle and center Luke Kornet, will test a Kings defense that ranks last in the NBA in efficiency over the past month. For Sacramento, which lists Maxime Raynaud, Precious Achiuwa and Keegan Murray as key contributors, finding consistent offense outside of sporadic performances has been a season-long challenge. They face a daunting task against a San Antonio team that is 24-5 at home this season. Following this game, the Spurs embark on a five-game road trip starting Monday in Detroit. The Kings continue their own extended road stretch, traveling to Memphis on Monday as part of a journey that will see them play nine of their next ten games away from home.
