MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) â The Minnesota Timberwolves, looking to stabilize after a recent skid, host the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at Target Center in a Western Conference matchup. Minnesota (32-22) has lost three of its last four games, including a 115-96 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. The Timberwolves will rely on All-Star guard Anthony Edwards, who is averaging 30.0 points over his last 10 games. He scored 39 points in a loss to Memphis on Feb. 2 and 35 in a narrow defeat to New Orleans on Friday. Portland (25-28) arrives with momentum from a two-game sweep of Memphis, winning 135-115 on Friday and 122-115 on Saturday. Second-year center Donovan Clingan dominated the latter victory with 20 points and 19 rebounds, continuing a remarkable stretch of rebounding. Over his last 10 games, Clingan is averaging a double-double of 13.6 points and 15.4 rebounds, recording at least 12 boards in nine of those contests. The Timberwolves won the seasonâs first meeting, 118-114 in Portland on Oct. 22. Minnesota currently holds the fifth-best record in the West, while Portland sits 10th, just outside the play-in tournament picture. Minnesotaâs frontcourt of Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle will be tasked with containing Clinganâs interior presence. For Portland, limiting Edwardsâ explosive scoring while finding consistent offense beyond Clingan and veterans Jerami Grant and Jrue Holiday will be critical. The game is the first of a home-and-home set between the teams, who will meet again in Portland on Feb. 24. The Timberwolves begin a three-game homestand, while the Trail Blazers continue a three-game road trip before the All-Star break.
