Preview: NBA West Showdown Set for Phoenix PHOENIX (Interstat) — The NBA-leading Oklahoma City Thunder visit the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night in a Western Conference matchup featuring two teams on divergent recent paths. The Thunder (41-13) arrive at Mortgage Matchup Center with the league’s best record, having won eight of their last 11 games. They are coming off a 119-110 road victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday. Phoenix (31-22) has lost three of its last four, including a 109-103 home defeat to Philadelphia last Saturday. Oklahoma City, installed as a 6.5-point favorite with an over/under of 217.5, has dominated two of the three meetings with Phoenix this season. The Thunder routed the Suns 138-89 on Dec. 10 and won 123-119 on Nov. 28. Phoenix’s lone win came Jan. 4, a 108-105 home victory. A key player to watch is Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren. The center is averaging a double-double over his last 10 games, including a 28-point, 8-rebound performance against Cleveland on Jan. 19 and a 25-point, 13-rebound outing against Indiana on Jan. 23. He posted 13 points and 10 rebounds in Monday’s win. For the Suns, forward Royce O’Neale has been a consistent contributor. He is coming off a 14-point, 11-redouble-double in the loss to the 76ers. Phoenix will also rely on the backcourt scoring of Devin Booker, who had 21 points and nine assists in that game. The Thunder’s elite offense, which averages 118.7 points per game, will test a Phoenix defense that has allowed an average of 112.3 points. Oklahoma City’s next game is Thursday at home against Milwaukee, while Phoenix does not play again until Feb. 19 at San Antonio. Wednesday’s contest tips off at 8 p.m. local time (10 p.m. EST).
