Preview: Heat Look to Extend Winning Ways Against Struggling Pelicans NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — The Miami Heat, riding the momentum of a blowout victory, visit the struggling New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night at Smoothie King Center. Miami (28-26) arrives after a dominant 132-101 road win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday. The Heat have alternated wins and losses over their past six games but sit firmly in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Their recent success has been fueled by consistent play from All-Star center Bam Adebayo, who is averaging 20.6 points and 10.5 rebounds over his last 10 games. He posted 22 points and eight rebounds in just 28 minutes against Washington. The Pelicans (14-40), owners of one of the NBA’s worst records, are coming off a 119-115 upset victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 6. Forward Saddiq Bey has been a bright spot, erupting for 30 points, nine rebounds and five assists in that win and averaging 22.3 points over his last 10 contests. Zion Williamson added 29 points in the Minnesota game. These teams met just over a month ago in Miami, with the Heat cruising to a 125-106 victory on Jan. 4. For Miami, maintaining focus against a sub-.500 opponent will be key as they navigate a crowded postseason race. Rookie center Kel’el Ware, coming off a 19-point, 14-rebound performance against Washington, provides important frontcourt depth alongside Adebayo. New Orleans will aim to build on its rare win and find consistency during a difficult season. Defensive intensity will be paramount against a Heat team that scored 134 and 132 points in two of its last four games. Following this contest, the Heat continue a road-heavy stretch with games at Atlanta, Milwaukee and Philadelphia. The Pelicans embark on a lengthy homestand before a challenging seven-game road trip starting in late February. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday.
