BOSTON (Interstat) — The Boston Celtics look to avenge a recent loss and solidify their playoff positioning when they host the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night at TD Garden. The Celtics (34-19) enter the matchup having dropped three of their last five, including a 111-89 home loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday. They also seek payback for a 114-111 defeat in Chicago on Jan. 24. The Bulls (24-29) have lost four straight and eight of their last 10, most recently falling 136-120 to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. A key matchup will feature emerging forwards from each side. For Chicago, rookie Matas Buzelis has been a bright spot during the skid, averaging 18.2 points and 6.2 rebounds over his last five games. He scored 14 points with eight rebounds and five assists in the Bulls’ win over Boston last month. Boston will counter with second-year guard Baylor Scheierman, who is coming off a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds against New York. His role has expanded recently, averaging 9.8 points and 8.8 rebounds over his last four contests. The Celtics hold a significant edge in the standings, sitting comfortably in the Eastern Conference’s upper tier, while the Bulls are fighting to stay in the play-in conversation. Boston won the season’s first meeting 115-101 at home on Jan. 5 before the Bulls evened the series later in January. Chicago’s defense, which has allowed an average of 128.5 points during its four-game losing streak, will be tested by a Celtics offense that ranks among the league’s most efficient. Boston’s defense, anchored by Derrick White and Jaylen Brown, will focus on containing Buzelis and slowing Chicago’s transition game. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. EST as the Celtics begin a three-game homestand before embarking on a challenging West Coast road trip. The Bulls continue a difficult stretch before the All-Star break.
