CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) â The surging Detroit Pistons, owners of the NBAâs second-best record, visit the Spectrum Center on Monday to face a Charlotte Hornets team riding its longest winning streak of the season. The Pistons (38-13) enter having won eight of their last 10, including a dominant 118-80 victory over the New York Knicks on Friday. Detroitâs offense has been potent, scoring 130 or more points in three of its last five games. Guard Daniss Jenkins has been a key spark, averaging 12.8 points in 19.4 minutes per game over his last 10 contests. He scored 18 points in just 18 minutes in the win over New York. Charlotte (25-28) has found its rhythm, winning seven consecutive games to climb back into play-in contention. The streak includes a 126-119 road win at Atlanta on Saturday, powered by forward Miles Bridgesâ 26 points, six rebounds and five assists. Bridges has been instrumental during the run, averaging 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists over the last 10 games. This matchup is a reversal of the teamsâ first meeting on Dec. 20, when the Pistons routed the Hornets 112-86 in Detroit. The Pistons have maintained elite form since, while the Hornets have dramatically improved, transforming from a team nine games below .500 three weeks ago to one now challenging for the postseason. Detroitâs balanced attack, which also features consistent contributions from Isaiah Stewart and Paul Reed, will test a Charlotte defense that has allowed an average of 105.1 points during its winning streak. The Hornets will rely on Bridges and rookie guard Kon Knueppel, who is coming off a 23-point, eight-rebound performance against Atlanta. Mondayâs game tips off a two-game road trip for Detroit before the All-Star break. Charlotte plays the second of a four-game homestand.
