SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The surging San Antonio Spurs, holding firm in the Western Conference playoff picture, host the Orlando Magic in an interconference matchup Sunday at Frost Bank Center. The Spurs (32-17) look to rebound after a narrow 111-106 road loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. Rookie guard Stephon Castle continued his impressive play with 16 points, nine assists and five rebounds in the defeat. Castle has been a catalyst, averaging 14.8 points and 7.6 assists over his last 10 games, providing vital playmaking alongside star forward Victor Wembanyama. San Antonio won the season’s first meeting, 114-112, in Orlando on Dec. 3. Orlando (25-22) arrives after a high-scoring 130-120 victory over Toronto on Friday. Paolo Banchero led a balanced attack with 20 points, nine rebounds and six blocks, while Anthony Black scored 25 and Desmond Bane added 32. Banchero has been on a tear, averaging 26.7 points and 9.7 rebounds over his last 10 contests, including a 37-point, 10-rebound performance in a loss to Cleveland last week. The Magic have struggled for consistency, however, going 5-5 over that same stretch. Their defense, a strength earlier in the season, has allowed an average of 118.2 points in those 10 games. San Antonio’s home-court advantage has been significant; they are 18-7 at Frost Bank Center this season. Orlando is 11-13 on the road. The game features a compelling duel between Banchero’s all-around scoring and physicality and the Spurs’ versatile frontcourt, anchored by Wembanyama. Orlando’s ability to contain Castle’s penetration and orchestration will be equally critical. Following this game, Orlando begins a two-game road trip in Oklahoma City on Tuesday. San Antonio remains home to host the Thunder on Wednesday.
