Preview: Struggling Nets, Jazz Meet in Salt Lake City SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — Two of the NBA’s coldest teams will look to halt extended slides when the Brooklyn Nets visit the Utah Jazz at Delta Center on Friday night. The Nets (12-33) have lost nine of their last 10 games, including a 102-106 defeat in Phoenix on Tuesday. The Jazz (15-33) have fared only marginally better, dropping eight of their last 10, most recently a 124-140 home loss to Golden State on Wednesday. In a matchup of teams near the bottom of their respective conferences, individual scoring talent will be on display. Brooklyn’s Michael Porter enters on a hot streak, averaging 24.6 points over his last 10 games. He is coming off a 36-point performance against the Suns. For Utah, rookie guard Ace Bailey has provided flashes of offensive creation, though his production has been inconsistent. He scored 19 points with seven rebounds and four assists against the Warriors. The teams last met on Dec. 4 in Brooklyn, a 123-110 victory for the Jazz. Utah’s home-court advantage has been minimal this season, while the Nets have managed only four road wins. Both teams have been plagued by defensive issues. Brooklyn has allowed 120 or more points in six of its last seven losses. Utah’s defense has been even more porous, surrendering an average of 128.5 points over its last four games, all defeats. The game could hinge on which team’s supporting cast can provide more stability. For Brooklyn, guard Egor Demin and center Nicolas Claxton, who had eight assists against Phoenix, will need to contribute beyond Porter’s scoring. Utah will rely on guard Keyonte George and forward Brice Sensabaugh, who had 22 points off the bench Wednesday, to supplement Bailey. Following this contest, both teams embark on lengthy road trips. The Nets visit Detroit on Sunday to begin a stretch with seven of their next nine away from home. The Jazz start a five-game Eastern Conference road swing in Toronto on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
