PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Phoenix Suns look to continue their push in the Western Conference standings when they host the struggling Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night at Mortgage Matchup Center. The Suns (27-18) enter having won seven of their last 10 games, though they are coming off a 110-103 road loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. Devin Booker, the focal point of Phoenix’s offense, is averaging 24.4 points and 6.2 assists per game this season. He scored 24 points in a 126-117 home win over Brooklyn just eight days ago. The Nets (12-31) own the worst record in the Eastern Conference and have lost three straight, including a 130-126 defeat to Boston last Friday. Their only two wins in the last month came against Chicago and Denver. Forward Michael Porter has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 24.6 points and 7.4 rebounds over his last 10 games. He scored 23 points in the loss to Phoenix on Jan. 19. Brooklyn’s defense has been a persistent issue, allowing an average of 117.2 points per game this season. In their last meeting, the Suns shot 51.7% from the field and made 16 3-pointers. The Nets will need a stronger defensive effort and another high-output night from Porter to challenge on the road. Phoenix, currently fifth in the West, begins a three-game homestand with this contest before hosting Detroit on Thursday. Brooklyn continues a difficult six-game road trip, with games at Denver and Utah to follow this week. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
