PHOENIX (Interstat) — The struggling Washington Wizards, led by rising rookie Alex Sarr, aim to snap a two-game skid when they visit the playoff-contending Phoenix Suns on Sunday at Mortgage Matchup Center. The Wizards (10-26) are coming off a 131-110 road loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Sarr, the second-year center, had 15 points and seven rebounds in that defeat. He has been a bright spot during a tough season, averaging 17.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks over his last 10 games, including a 20-point, 11-rebound performance in a win over Milwaukee on New Year’s Eve. Phoenix (22-15) enters on a strong note after a 117-98 victory in Memphis, where center Mark Williams posted 12 points and 12 rebounds. Williams has been a consistent interior force, averaging a double-double (11.1 points, 10.1 rebounds) over the same 10-game span. The Suns have won seven of their last 10 and currently hold the fifth seed in the Western Conference. This is a quick rematch of a Dec. 29 meeting in Washington, which the Suns won decisively, 115-101. In that game, Sarr was held to just two points and two rebounds, while Williams contributed 10 points and eight boards for Phoenix. The Wizards will need a much stronger performance from their young star to challenge the Suns’ balance. Washington’s recent form has been inconsistent, mixing impressive home wins over Brooklyn and Milwaukee with lopsided losses. Phoenix has been steadier, though it suffered a narrow 100-97 loss in Houston on Monday. Following this contest, the Wizards begin a challenging West Coast road trip with games against the Clippers, Kings and Nuggets. The Suns embark on a six-game road trip of their own, starting Tuesday in Miami. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. local time.
