CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Toronto Raptors look to continue their climb up the Eastern Conference standings when they visit the struggling Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night at Spectrum Center. Toronto (21-15) enters on a strong run, having won seven of its last 10 games, including a 134-117 offensive showcase against Atlanta last Saturday. The Raptors sit sixth in the East. Charlotte (12-23), despite a 112-99 win in Chicago last Saturday, has lost eight of its last 12 and remains near the bottom of the conference. A key matchup will feature forwards Brandon Ingram of Toronto and Charlotte’s Miles Bridges, both in strong recent form. Ingram is averaging 24.3 points and 6.5 rebounds over his last 10 games, coming off a 29-point, 9-rebound performance against the Hawks. Bridges is averaging a double-double in that span with 18.4 points and 10.0 rebounds, and he dominated the Bulls with 26 points and 14 rebounds. The season series favors Charlotte 2-1, with the Hornets winning the last two meetings decisively. Charlotte won 118-111 in Charlotte on Nov. 29 and routed the Raptors 111-86 in Toronto on Dec. 5. For Toronto, success hinges on its core trio. Beyond Ingram, Scottie Barnes provides all-around play, and Sandro Mamukelashvili is coming off a triple-double threat of 13 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists against Atlanta. The Raptors’ offense has been potent, scoring 141 and 134 points in two of their last four wins. Charlotte relies on Bridges, the scoring of Brandon Miller and the playmaking of LaMelo Ball, who had 17 points and seven assists against Chicago. Consistency has been an issue, as the Hornets have the league’s fourth-worst defensive rating. This game opens a challenging five-game road trip for Toronto, which visits Boston next. Charlotte begins a three-game homestand before embarking on a difficult six-game Western Conference road trip. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
