OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — The NBA’s top team looks to quickly return to its dominant ways when the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. The Thunder (25-3), owners of the league’s best record, enter off a rare stumble, a 112-107 loss at Minnesota on Friday. That defeat snapped a seven-game winning streak. They are a formidable 14-1 at Paycom Center this season. Standing in their path is a Memphis squad (13-14) that has found a rhythm, winning four of its last five games, including a 116-110 victory at Minnesota on Wednesday. The matchup features a stark contrast in trajectories. Oklahoma City, led by MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, has been a powerhouse, winning by an average of 16.2 points in their 25 victories. Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 33.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists over his last 10 games, including a 40-point performance against the Timberwolves on Nov. 26. Memphis, navigating a season around the .500 mark, is led by forward-center Jaren Jackson Jr., who is coming off a 28-point, 12-rebound effort in the win over Minnesota. Over his last three games, Jackson is averaging 30.3 points and 7.0 rebounds. The Thunder won the first meeting this season, 114-100 in Memphis on Nov. 9, behind 31 points from Gilgeous-Alexander. Oklahoma City’s defense, which allows a league-low 102.7 points per game, will be tested by a Grizzlies offense that has averaged 118.2 points during its recent 4-1 stretch. Conversely, Memphis must contend with the Thunder’s top-ranked offensive rating and their relentless efficiency. The game is the first of a back-to-back for both teams. Memphis travels to Utah on Tuesday, while Oklahoma City visits San Antonio.
