Preview: Spurs Look to Extend Dominance Over Struggling Wizards WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A matchup of teams at opposite ends of the NBA standings unfolds Sunday when the Western Conference powerhouse San Antonio Spurs visit the league-worst Washington Wizards. The game at Capital One Arena is a quick rematch from Thursday, when the Spurs (20-8) routed the Wizards 119-94 in San Antonio. The Spurs have won eight of their last 10 games, while the Wizards (4-21) have lost 10 of their last 12. San Antonio enters riding high after a 126-98 road victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. The Spurs’ efficiency has been notable, with their last five wins coming by an average margin of 19.2 points. All-Star forward Victor Wembanyama continues to be the focal point for San Antonio. Over his last four games, he is averaging 20.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in just 21 minutes per game. In Thursday’s win over Washington, he posted 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in 17 minutes. The Wizards, in the early stages of a rebuild, are led by rookie guard Clayton Carrington. He scored 17 points in the loss to San Antonio last week and is coming off a 27-point, eight-assist performance against Cleveland on Dec. 12. First-round pick Alex Sarr added 18 points in the previous meeting with the Spurs. Washington’s defense remains a significant concern, allowing a league-worst 124.3 points per game. They face a Spurs offense that ranks near the top of the league in scoring and offensive rating. The Spurs continue a four-game road trip before returning home for a Christmas Day showdown with Oklahoma City. The Wizards begin a brief two-game homestand before traveling to Charlotte on Tuesday.
