PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Golden State Warriors seek to even the season series and climb above .500 when they visit the struggling Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday at Moda Center. The Warriors (13-12) arrive after a dominant 123-91 road win in Chicago last Sunday, their second straight victory. Portland (9-16) has lost four consecutive games, most recently a 143-120 defeat in New Orleans on Thursday. Golden State guard Brandin Podziemski enters in strong form, averaging 13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists over his last 10 games. He posted 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win over the Bulls. He will face a significant challenge from Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija, who is in the midst of a stellar individual stretch. Over Portland’s last 10 contests, Avdija has averaged 24.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.5 assists, including a 26-point, 14-assist performance in a 127-123 win over the Warriors on Nov. 21. That victory gave Portland a 2-0 edge in this season’s head-to-head matchup, following a 139-119 home win on Oct. 24. In both games, the Trail Blazers’ offense proved overwhelming. Containing Avdija and improving its defense will be paramount for a Golden State team that has shown inconsistency. The Warriors have alternated wins and losses over their past six games. For Portland, stopping its skid before a difficult upcoming schedule is critical. Following this game, the Trail Blazers face a stretch that includes the Sacramento Kings (twice), Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors continue a five-game road trip, with contests at Phoenix, Toronto, Brooklyn and Charlotte looming next week. Sunday’s tipoff is set for 6 p.m. PST at Moda Center.
