MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The struggling Sacramento Kings look to replicate a recent victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves when the teams meet Sunday at Target Center. The Kings (6-19) have lost eight of their last nine games, including a 136-105 blowout loss to Denver on Thursday. Their lone win in that stretch was a 127-111 victory at Miami on Dec. 6. Sacramento’s only other win since Nov. 22 came against these same Timberwolves, a 117-112 home victory on Nov. 24. In that game, Kings guard Malik Monk scored 22 points. He is a key player to watch for Sacramento, coming off an 18-point, 5-assist performance against Denver. Over his last five games, Monk is averaging 17.2 points and 4.2 assists. The Timberwolves (15-9) have been stronger this season but are coming off a 108-105 home loss to Phoenix on Monday. That snapped a five-game winning streak. Star guard Anthony Edwards has been on a tear, averaging 31.2 points over his last five contests. He scored 43 points in the loss to Sacramento last month. Minnesota has dominated two of the three meetings this season, winning 124-110 at home on Nov. 14 and 144-117 in Sacramento on Nov. 9. The Timberwolves’ size and defense, anchored by Rudy Gobert (15 points, 8 rebounds in last outing), will challenge a Kings team allowing an average of 118.3 points per game. Following this game, Sacramento begins a three-game homestand against Portland on Thursday. Minnesota hosts Memphis on Wednesday.
