NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Timberwolves seek to avenge a narrow loss and continue a strong start when they visit the struggling New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night at Smoothie King Center. The game is a quick rematch of Tuesday’s meeting, which the Pelicans won 124-122. That victory stands as a rare bright spot for New Orleans (3-18), which has the NBA’s worst record and has lost 15 of its last 16 games. In their most recent outing, the Pelicans fell 133-121 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, led by Saddiq Bey’s 22 points and 11 rebounds. Minnesota (12-8) bounced back from Tuesday’s loss with a 125-112 home win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. Anthony Edwards scored 32 points and Julius Randle added 22 points and 12 assists for the Timberwolves, who have won four of their last six. The Timberwolves’ balanced attack, featuring Edwards, Randle and center Naz Reid, will test a Pelicans defense that allows a league-worst 122.9 points per game. New Orleans will again rely on its backcourt of Bey, Bryce McGowens and rookie Jeremiah Fears, who combined for 66 points in the Sunday defeat. Following this contest, Minnesota returns home to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday. New Orleans begins a two-game road trip at Brooklyn on Saturday.
