CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs (54-42) host the Minnesota Twins (48-49) on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field, with first pitch scheduled for 1:20 p.m. under partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 91 degrees. Minnesota will send right-hander Taj Bradley (9-3, 2.98 ERA) to the mound. The 25-year-old has been one of baseball’s hottest pitchers, winning his last four starts. He allowed just two earned runs over seven innings in each of his past two outings, including a 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Angels on July 12. Bradley struck out 10 in a July 7 win over Cleveland. The Cubs have not announced a probable starter, but third baseman Alex Bregman enters the game with momentum. Bregman went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in Chicago’s 8-4 win at Cincinnati on July 12. He has hits in five of his last seven games, including two homers and six RBIs in that span. The Cubs took the series opener 1-0 on Friday afternoon, the second straight low-scoring affair between the division rivals. Chicago has won three of its last four overall. The Twins are coming off a 4-2 win over the Angels on July 12, their third victory in four games. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 Cubs victory. Chicago holds a six-game lead over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Minnesota is 6.5 games back of the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central. The two teams wrap up the series Sunday afternoon before the Twins travel to Cleveland for a four-game set and the Cubs host Detroit for three.
