SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves, owners of the best record in the National League at 48-28, open a three-game series Monday against the San Diego Padres (39-37) at PETCO Park. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT. Right-hander Grant Holmes (4-3) is Atlanta’s probable starter. Both clubs enter the game on one-game losing streaks. The Braves fell 9-4 at home to Milwaukee on Sunday, while the Padres dropped a 4-3 decision at Texas. Braves first baseman Rowdy Tellez homered and drove in two runs in Sunday’s loss, and left fielder Mauricio Dubón went 3 for 4. But attention also turns to right-handed reliever Reynaldo López, who has been sharp in recent outings. In his last four appearances, López has allowed no earned runs over 7 1/3 innings, striking out seven. That stretch includes a 3-inning, one-hit, three-strikeout performance against the Brewers on Sunday. The one blemish in his past seven appearances came on June 4 against Toronto, when he surrendered four earned runs on five hits in one inning. For San Diego, left-handed reliever Kyle Hart has been equally effective. Over his last four appearances, Hart has allowed one hit in 5 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. He worked a scoreless inning Sunday at Texas. The Padres have won four of their last six and will look to build momentum against the NL East-leading Braves. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 victory for San Diego. Following this series, Atlanta travels to San Francisco for three games beginning Friday. San Diego hosts the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game set starting Friday.
