PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians, owners of the best record in the American League, visit the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday evening at Citizens Bank Park in the second game of a three-game interleague series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT, with a forecast of 60 degrees and rain. Cleveland (30-22) sends right-hander Slade Cecconi (3-4, 4.50 ERA) to the mound. The Phillies (25-25) counter with right-hander Zack Wheeler (3-0, 2.70 ERA). The series opener Friday afternoon was suspended scoreless in the top of the first inning due to rain. The Guardians enter having won five straight games, all on the road, including a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers earlier this week. Left-hander Joey Cantillo has been a key factor in that surge, posting a 1.59 ERA over his last three starts, including a win Thursday at Detroit in which he allowed three hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. He is expected to be available out of the bullpen Saturday. Cleveland’s offense has averaged 6.5 runs per game during its winning streak, fueled by timely hitting. Shortstop Brayan Rocchio went 3-for-3 in Thursday’s 3-1 win over the Tigers. Philadelphia, meanwhile, has lost four of its last five games. The Phillies dropped three of four to the Cincinnati Reds this week, including a 9-4 loss Wednesday. Right-hander Aaron Nola (3-4) took the loss in that game, allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings. He is not scheduled to pitch Saturday but is a candidate for the bullpen. The Phillies have struggled offensively, scoring three runs or fewer in six of their last eight games. Edmundo Sosa homered and drove in two runs Wednesday. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Cleveland 8, Philadelphia 6. The Phillies have been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus-1.5, and the over/under is set at 7.5 runs. The series concludes Sunday afternoon. Cleveland opens a six-game homestand Monday against the Washington Nationals, while Philadelphia begins a 10-game road trip Monday at San Diego.
