Rangers at Angels Preview ANAHEIM (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers visit the Los Angeles Angels on Friday at 7:07 p.m. at Angel Stadium for the opener of a three-game series. Texas (24-25) enters having won two of its last three, including a 5-4 victory Wednesday at Colorado. The Rangers send right-hander Jacob deGrom (3-3) to the mound against an Angels team that has lost six of seven series this season. The Angels (17-33) are coming off a 6-5, 10-inning loss Wednesday to Oakland, their third defeat in four games. Pitching Matchup DeGrom will make his 10th start of the season. He holds a 3.67 ERA over 49 innings, with 62 strikeouts and 12 walks. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has pitched at least six innings in four of his last five outings. The Angels had not announced a probable starter as of Thursday. Right-hander Jack Kochanowicz, a player to watch, last pitched Wednesday against the Athletics, allowing three runs on three hits over six innings with seven strikeouts and a no-decision. Over his last four starts, all Angels losses, Kochanowicz has a 7.71 ERA, surrendering 24 hits and 17 earned runs across 22 1/3 innings. Players to Watch Rangers left-hander Jacob Latz has been a reliable bullpen arm, posting a 1.80 ERA over 15 innings this season. In his last eight appearances, he has allowed one earned run, striking out 10 over 9 2/3 innings. His lone rough outing came May 13 against Arizona, when he allowed three earned runs without recording an out. Kochanowicz, a 6-foot-7 right-hander, has shown flashes of quality, including a strong start May 3 against the New York Mets (6 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K). However, consistency has eluded him; he was tagged for six runs on nine hits in just four innings May 9 at Toronto. Recent Form Texas has won seven of its last 10 games, outscoring opponents 49-27 in that span. The Rangers are 12-12 on the road. The Angels have lost eight of their last 10, scoring three or fewer runs in six of those defeats. They are 8-17 at home. By the Numbers The game simulation projects a 5-2 Rangers victory. Interstat’s ELO system gives Texas a 61.3 percent probability of winning. Texas is a -1.5 run-line favorite, with an over/under of 8 runs. Series Schedule The series continues Saturday and Sunday at Angel Stadium before the Rangers return home to host Houston in a six-game homestand beginning Monday.
