AP Sports Preview CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs open a three-game series Monday at Wrigley Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. under partly cloudy skies and 82-degree heat. Milwaukee (26-18) will start right-hander Brandon Sproat (1-2, 4.50 ERA). The Cubs (29-18) counter with left-hander Shota Imanaga (4-3, 3.12 ERA). Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Milwaukee victory. The Brewers dropped Sunday’s series finale 5-4 at Minnesota. Left-hander DL Hall worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings, extending a stretch in which he has allowed zero earned runs in eight of his past nine appearances. Hall has struck out 12 over 11 2/3 innings in that span. Outfielder Sal Frelick went 2-for-5 with an RBI against the Twins. Milwaukee has won seven of its past 10 games, including three of four at home against San Diego before splitting the two-game set at Minnesota. The Cubs rallied from a 7-1 deficit Sunday before falling 9-8 in 10 innings to the crosstown White Sox. Designated hitter Michael Conforto homered and drove in three runs, going 2-for-4. Conforto is batting .325 over his past 10 games with three home runs and six RBIs. Right-hander Jacob Webb threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Chicago has dropped three of its past four, but the Cubs hold a three-game lead over Milwaukee in the National League Central. Sproat is making his eighth start. The rookie has allowed three earned runs or fewer in five of his seven outings. Imanaga has been the Cubs’ most consistent starter, working at least six innings in six of his nine starts. The Brewers placed in the win column Friday and Saturday at Minnesota before the loss Sunday. Chicago split its two-game crosstown series with the White Sox after winning 10-5 on Friday and losing 8-3 on Saturday. After Monday’s opener, the teams play again Tuesday and Wednesday at Wrigley Field. Milwaukee then returns home for three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers starting Friday, followed by a three-game home set versus St. Louis. Chicago remains home for three against Houston beginning Friday before a four-game road trip to Pittsburgh and a three-game series at St. Louis.
