MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers go for a series sweep Thursday evening against the San Diego Padres at American Family Field, where rain and temperatures around 56 degrees are expected for the 6:40 p.m. first pitch. Milwaukee (23-16) won the first two games of the series, including a 1-0 victory Wednesday, and holds a 57.70 percent probability to win according to Interstat’s ELO system. The Brewers are -1.5 favorites, and the over/under is 8. Interstat projects a 7-5 Milwaukee victory. Left-hander Kyle Harrison (3-1, 3.12 ERA) is the scheduled starter for San Diego, though the Padres also listed right-hander Griffin Canning (0-1) as a probable pitcher. Harrison will face a Milwaukee lineup that has scored six runs in each of the first two games. San Diego (24-17) will look to avoid its third straight loss. The Padres are coming off a 6-4 defeat Tuesday in which Wandy Peralta tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits with two strikeouts. Peralta has been effective recently, allowing no earned runs in six of his past seven appearances. Brandon Sproat is a key arm for Milwaukee. He earned the win Tuesday against the Padres, throwing 5.1 innings with six hits and three earned runs allowed while striking out six. Sproat has won two of his past three starts. The Brewers have won five of their past six games overall, including a series victory over the New York Yankees last weekend. Milwaukee’s offense has been balanced, with contributions from Joey Ortiz, who homered Tuesday and drove in two runs. San Diego has lost four of its past five games. The Padres took two of three from St. Louis before arriving in Milwaukee, but have struggled to contain the Brewers’ bats. After Thursday’s game, San Diego travels to Seattle for a three-game weekend series starting Friday. Milwaukee heads to Minnesota for a three-game set against the Twins. The forecast calls for rain throughout the evening, which could impact play at the retractable-roof ballpark. Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy will look to complete the sweep before the team hits the road. San Diego skipper Mike Shildt will turn to Harrison to stop the skid and salvage the series finale.
