ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Pittsburgh Pirates look to secure a series win when they face the Texas Rangers in the middle game of a three-game set Wednesday night at Globe Life Park. The Pirates (13-9) edged the Rangers 1-0 on Tuesday and have won seven of their last 10 games. The Rangers (11-11) have dropped three of their last four. A marquee pitching matchup features Pittsburgh right-hander Mitch Keller against Texas left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Keller (2-2, 3.00 ERA) is coming off a strong performance, allowing two runs over seven innings in a 6-3 win over Tampa Bay on April 19. In his last five starts, he has three outings of at least six innings with two or fewer earned runs, but was tagged for five runs in a loss to Washington on April 14. Gore (2-2, 4.13 ERA) seeks a rebound after a rough outing in Seattle on April 19, where he surrendered five runs on seven hits in five innings. His season has been a mix of dominance and struggle, highlighted by a one-hit, nine-strikeout shutout performance against the Mariners on April 8. Pittsburgh’s offense, which managed just three hits in Tuesday’s victory, will look for more production. Bryan Reynolds, who drove in three runs in Sunday’s win over the Rays, is a key bat. Texas aims to solve its recent offensive woes after being shut out for the sixth time this season Tuesday. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, the projected final score is Pirates 5, Rangers 3. Following Wednesday’s contest, the series concludes Thursday before Pittsburgh travels to Milwaukee. Texas will host Oakland for a three-game weekend series.
