Rain, Records on the Line as Twins, Mets Set for Citi Field Showdown NEW YORK (Interstat) — A pair of teams looking to shake early-season struggles will meet under gloomy skies Wednesday when the Minnesota Twins visit the New York Mets at Citi Field, with rain in the forecast and first pitch temperature expected to be around 45 degrees. The interleague series is tied after a 3-3 draw Tuesday. The Twins (11-11) aim to get back above .500, while the Mets (7-15) desperately seek momentum after losing 10 of their last 11 games. Minnesota will send right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (0-3) to the mound. He will be opposed by Mets right-hander Clay Holmes (2-2). Both pitchers will be working in what could be wet and chilly conditions. A player to watch for the Twins is right-hander Bailey Ober, who turned in a dominant performance his last time out despite a loss. On Sunday, Ober struck out 10 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits in a 7-4, 10-inning loss to Cincinnati. Over his last five starts, he has 24 strikeouts in 22 innings. For the Mets, left-hander David Peterson will be a key figure out of the bullpen. He provided 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s 2-1, 10-inning loss at Chicago. Peterson has struggled as a starter this season but could play a pivotal role behind Holmes. The Twins are coming off a frustrating 4-3 homestand that ended with three straight one-run losses to the Reds, including a 10-inning defeat Sunday. The Mets just concluded a 1-5 road trip through Los Angeles and Chicago, with four of those losses by two runs or fewer. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, the Twins are projected to win 5-0. Following Wednesday’s game, the series concludes Thursday before the Twins head to Tampa Bay and the Mets host the Colorado Rockies.
