SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) β The first-place Los Angeles Dodgers look to continue their strong start and hand struggling right-hander Tyler Mahle his first win when they visit the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday at Oracle Park. The Dodgers (16-6) enter having won seven of their last 10, including a 12-3 rout in Colorado on Monday. They played the Giants to a scoreless tie in a Tuesday exhibition that does not count toward season records. San Francisco (9-13) has lost three of its last four official games. Mahle (0-3) takes the mound seeking to reverse his early fortunes for a team that has provided ample run support. The Dodgers have averaged 6.2 runs in his starts, but Mahle has an ERA of 6.89. He will be opposed by Giants left-hander Robbie Ray (2-2, 3.00 ERA). Ray has been sharp in two home starts this season, allowing two runs over 11 2/3 innings with 14 strikeouts. A key matchup will be Ray against Dodgers slugger Max Muncy. Muncy is batting .500 (12 for 24) with five home runs and 10 RBIs over his last six games, including a 4-for-4, two-homer performance Monday. Ray has held left-handed hitters to a .182 average this season. The Giantsβ offense has mustered just three total runs in its last three losses. They will need to break through against a Dodgers pitching staff that has recorded three shutouts in its last seven games. According to National Statistical, the Dodgers are projected to win 7-4. Los Angeles is a pregame favorite of 1.5 runs, with an over/under of 7.5. Following the game, the two NL West rivals conclude their series Thursday before both clubs host the Miami Marlins for three-game weekend sets.
