PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Arizona Diamondbacks look to build on their strong start and secure a series win when they host the Chicago White Sox in the second of a two-game set Wednesday at Chase Field. Arizona (13-9) took the series opener 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel Tuesday night. The Diamondbacks hold a 5.5-game advantage over the White Sox (8-14) in the early standings. The pitching matchup features two left-handers with identical 1-0 records. The White Sox will send Anthony Kay to the mound. He will be opposed by Arizona’s Eduardo Rodriguez. A player to watch for Chicago is rookie left-hander Noah Schultz, who is not scheduled to start but provides a key arm in the bullpen. Schultz delivered five strong innings of one-run ball in a win at Oakland last Sunday. For Arizona, right-hander Brandon Pfaadt has been a workhorse, logging at least six innings in three of his four starts, including 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in a loss to Toronto on Sunday. The White Sox arrive having won three of their last four, including a 7-4 victory over the Athletics on Sunday behind Schultz and a two-RBI day from Miguel Vargas. Arizona had a four-game win streak snapped with a 10-4 loss to the Blue Jays that same day, despite a quality start from Pfaadt. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, the Diamondbacks are projected to win 6-3. Arizona has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 9.5 runs. Following Wednesday’s contest, the teams have an off day before the White Sox return to Chicago to open a series with the Washington Nationals on Friday. The Diamondbacks will also be off Thursday before hosting the San Diego Padres for a two-game series starting Saturday.
