PHOENIX (Interstat) — A marquee pitching matchup is set for Saturday at Chase Field as future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays face Zac Gallen and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Scherzer (1-2) will take the ball for the visiting Blue Jays, who are looking to rebound after a 1-0 loss in the series opener on Friday. Toronto has lost four of its last five and sits at 7-11 overall. The Diamondbacks (11-8), coming off a successful 6-4 road trip, won their home opener in shutout fashion. The 41-year-old Scherzer will be opposed by Arizona ace Zac Gallen (1-1). The duel features two of the game’s most accomplished right-handers in a contrast of generations. A player to watch for Toronto is reliever Patrick Corbin, who delivered a strong performance in a tough-luck loss his last time out. On Thursday in Milwaukee, Corbin allowed one earned run over 5 2/3 innings, striking out six in a 2-1 defeat. For Arizona, catcher Adrian Del Castillo has been a driving force. He is coming off a career game Wednesday in Baltimore, going 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs in a 10-inning, 8-5 victory. Over his last seven games, Del Castillo has nine RBIs. According to National Statistical, the Diamondbacks are a narrow favorite with a 50.7% probability to win. The outlet’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Arizona victory. Following Saturday’s contest, the interleague series concludes Sunday before Toronto travels to Anaheim to face the Angels. Arizona will host the Chicago White Sox for a three-game set beginning Tuesday.
