Preview: Rockies, Astros Meet in Houston After Recent Series HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros, two teams seeking momentum after slow starts, will open a three-game series at Daikin Park on Tuesday night. The Rockies (6-10) arrive after dropping three of four in San Diego, including a 7-2 loss on Sunday. The Astros (6-11) are coming off a 6-2 defeat in Seattle on Monday, losing their weekend series to the Mariners. This matchup is a quick reunion. The clubs just concluded a three-game set in Denver last week, which the Rockies swept by a combined score of 23-9. Colorado will look to continue that dominance as the visiting team this time. A player to watch for Colorado is reliever Victor Vodnik. The right-hander has been a bright spot, allowing no earned runs in six of his seven appearances this season. In Sunday’s loss at San Diego, he pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Over his last five outings, he has surrendered just one earned run. For Houston, reliever J.P. France will be one to monitor. After a rough outing on April 10 where he allowed four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings against Seattle, he rebounded with two scoreless frames on Monday. Both bullpens could be pivotal. In Colorado’s most recent win, Vodnik, Brennan Bernardino and Chase Dollander combined for 2 2/3 innings of one-run relief. For Houston on Monday, France provided two innings of scoreless work after starter Mike Burrows struggled. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, this contest projects to be a tight one, favoring the Rockies 3-2. Following this series, the Rockies will head home to face the Los Angeles Dodgers for four games. The Astros will remain at home to host the St. Louis Cardinals for three games over the weekend.
